Organize Your Space
An easy way to prevent damage to your vehicle when in the garage is to organize the space. Seemingly harmless objects can accidentally cause a great deal of damage to your vehicle. For example, say you simply stack your bikes against the wall right next to your vehicle.
From even a slightest disturbance, all the bikes could fall over right onto your car, leaving a large and deep dent. Given this scenario, the bikes should be stored away on a secure bike stand or rack. Make sure that everything in your garage is secure and a safe distance away from your vehicles.
Install A Parking Assistant
Installing a parking assistant can be especially helpful. Parking assistants basically serve as guides that alert you when you're getting too close to a wall or some other structure. A more economical assistant is a parking mat. Parking mats are basically rubber devices with two raised sides.
You affix the mat to the floor. As you drive over the mat, the raised sides secure the front wheel in place, signaling that you need to stop. More expensive systems come equipped with lasers or alarms that alert you when you are getting too close to the wall. Fortunately, any option you choose can help protect your vehicle.
Add Door Clearance Protection
A common source of damage for vehicles parked in garages is a door ding. Each time you open your door, even if it only gently taps the wall, this can cause damage. Avoid this problem by ensuring you're parking in a location that allows sufficient door clearance.
If the size of your vehicle or garage prevents this, use a pool noodle. Split a pool noodle down the middle lengthwise. Use nails or some other fastener to attach to the noodle to the wall in the spot where your car door normally hits. The pool noodle will serve as a buffer between the wall and door and prevent damage.
Taking preventive steps to protect your vehicle helps you to avoid damage and keep your vehicle looking better.
